LUCID: An Origin Story with a Labyrinth Plot

LUCID is an origin story with a labyrinth plot that takes twists and turns through a maze of action and adventure in an inner journey through lucid dreams.

But how did the idea of LUCID come to fruition? What was my motivation and inspiration for writing it? Well, that is a story in itself.

The Spark of LUCID

I can trace it back to when I kept a dream journal in 2002.

A journal and pen stayed on my nightstand, and I trained myself to write in the dark. I would wake up in the middle of the night to jot down my many dreams while they were still fresh in my memory. It was around this time that I experienced my first lucid dream—a fascinating experience, to say the least.

The Birth of the Novel

Fast forward a couple of years—on March 28, 2004, I wrote in my journal:

“I have decided to write a novel.”

It wasn’t the first time I had the idea to express myself creatively. I had written a couple of screenplays and scores of poems by then. In fact, I published a collection of my poetry in 2006, Welcome To My Universe.

However, a couple of days later, I was having second thoughts, based on my journal entry, where I wrote:

“I know I just said that I was going to write a novel two days ago, but I’m just not feeling it.”

Suffice it to say, writing a novel was a much more complex and difficult endeavor than anything I had ever written before.

The Challenges of Writing a Novel

The first question that I had was: Where do I start?

Sure, ideas are a dime a dozen, and I make a habit of collecting them through journaling. However, it’s one thing to stack a bunch of ideas on top of each other. It’s another thing entirely to string them together in a way that makes sense and tells a compelling story.

Peregrination: A Long and Arduous Journey

The road to LUCID has been a long and meandering one, with lots of starts, stops, and spurts along the way as the premise, theme, plot points, and characters evolved over time.

I am excited to share this journey with you, and I hope you enjoy reading LUCID as much as I enjoyed creating it. This is just the beginning.

Thank you for joining this movement to give birth to a new superhero. The plan is to create a trilogy where the LUCID universe takes on a life of its own.

Marvel needs some competition!
